Paul Cotton, director of federal affairs for NCQA, will deliver a keynote presentation on the importance of quality measurement and HEDIS® measures in times of crisis.

he COVID-19 pandemic led the NCQA to make policy changes concerning the collection of quality reporting for HEDIS and CAHPS for 2019 to allow organizations to focus on the COVID-19 public health emergency.
During a presentation at RISE National this summer, Cotton said the pandemic forced the NCQA to move all of its activities virtual and cancel its release of 2020 plan ratings. Medicare Advantage plans will also not be required to report HEDIS data for measurement year 2019 and the NCQA will not collect data for CAHPS.
His keynote presentation at the upcoming HEDIS® & Quality Improvement Summit, a live-streamed virtual event, will focus on how to prevent this suspension if and when there is another crisis in the future.
